Sampa

Well, this was a very hard project to finish.
It started 2 years ago and then had a lot of re-dos, breaks, and crashes (thank you M@ya, I hate you). But for some reason, in the last few weeks, I decided to wrap up what I've made, even knowing that I didn't accomplish everything I wanted for it and being not 100% happy with the result.
Anyway, here's a little bit of context for this piece:
'Sampa' is an artwork inspired by the time I was living in São Paulo by myself a few years ago. Back in that time, work and personal projects were my only routine, every single day. Because of that, one of the things that kept me company during that time was art, but mainly music. I remember listening to Racionais MC's or The Smiths late at night while working on my stuff. Living alone was a mix of feelings, but in the end, it was also a great experience from which I learned a lot.
For this project I was inspired by Aardman Animations style and my idea was to capture the feeling of being inside my apartment but also disconnected from the world while listening to some music and having cheap beer and cigarettes as companions. There are many references to things I used to like and still do: books, movies, music, and so on. It's also about the feeling of being welcomed in a chaotic environment.
I want to thank my friends for pushing me to finish this piece and for providing some very cool insights. I always learn a lot from them.
Blender and Zbrush for sculpting, Substance Painter for textures, Arnold for render, and M@ya for crashes.
Thanks.
